Modern Glenwood Parlor Stove - Family History

It was close to 30 years ago when my father installed this 1905 this Glenwood Parlor stove. My dad bought the stove from an estate auction being held in Colraine Massachusetts.

My folks were so excited to work with the stove. Together they worked to dismantle the entire stove, sandblast all if its parts and then carefully reassembled it. The nickeling was sent to a local plating specialist in Holyoke Massachusetts.

Over the years we have laughed that bringing that stove home was almost as as exciting as bringing a new baby into the family. The stove was installed in late November. My mother invited her family from Southampton over for Thanksgiving. She was so excited to show off the new stove and all it could not. Not only was it beautiful but it heated well and she even cooked part of the meal on its cook top.

After a wonderful holiday meal, everyone gathered in the living room to relax and enjoy each other's company. The fire was stoked up the fire and my father removed the front door of the stove so that we could enjoy a view of the flickering fire.

I stood in front of the stove that day and had my picture taken. It's now 30 years later and my father has decided it's time for change.

Over the last 30 years this stove has kept us warm and well-fed with its cook top. It has been worth its weight in gold during power outages. Removing the door front doors provides a great view of the fire without compromising the performance of the stove in any way. It takes a 21-inch stick of wood. It will burn 4 to 6 cords of wood in the winter depending on how early the season starts and how cold it gets.

As a family we have many many fond memories around this stove but it is time for a change. This Glenwood Parlor stove needs a new home and a family to appreciate and love it as we have.
