Tin Man Solves Housing Shortage
Even the birds are getting “lippy” these days! A pair of barn swallows tenaciously fought another feather couple for three days for tenancy in the lower lip of the tin man situated on Haydenville Rd. The victorious pair built a nest and presently are guarding four eggs nearly ready to hatch. The unique nesting place apparently is a solution to the housing shortage among swallows in barns in the area on the decrease. Employees of the Hampshire Engineering Co. daily watch as the parents swoop at rocket light speed with unerring accuracy into the ears of the indifferent tin statue.
